Additional info/contents The first movement of the "Three Bagatelles" begins with a powerful introduction, followed by a lively theme. This theme is first played by the 1st clarinettist (1st flugelhorn in the fanfare, solo cornet in the brass band), later taken over by other instrument groups.
The second movement forms a nice contrast with its contemplative character and the more thoughtful theme.
Finally, the third movement is rhythmic and leads the work to a sublime conclusion.

For the 'First Dialogue' series, André Waignein composed a three-part concerto work which is ideal for incomplete orchestras.

Programme notes *: additional text

The word Bagatelle comes from the French (for "little thing, love affair") and describes a small work of instrumental music. The special use of the term in the world of music goes back to the French composer François Couperin, in whose "10ème ordre de clavecin" from 1717 a piece is entitled "Rondeau - les bagatelles". If the term is still used here to characterise a small character piece, it is only with Beethoven that the term acquires its special meaning. However, a first series of Bagatelles for piano from 1794 to 1823, when Opus 119 was published by various publishers as a so-called "pirate print", was not initially successful.
