Additional info/contents	This "Concerto in Rhythm" by Hans-Joachim Rhinow was awarded the winning title in 1981 on the occasion of a competition announced by the Bundeswehr and the WDR ("Modern Brass Music Wanted"). A work for the "upper school", for which the composer gives some explanatory explanations: - Introduction: The work begins with a "Maestoso", in which the main theme is briefly alluded to in a striking form. A four-bar transition in Latin American rhythm (performed by guitar/bass/drums/guiro/tumba and other rhythm instruments ad lib.) then leads to the main theme, which is now presented in "vivo" by the entire orchestra. The Latin American rhythm is latently underlying. - Middle part: In the middle part, the clarinet and sax first take over the melody in low unison, and then later lead to the main theme in the full movement. After this tutti - so far the theme has been in a minor key - the wooden movement presents itself in a major grazioso part. Small brass passages interrupt this timbre, which then leads to a dynamic transition. - Moderato part: In the following Moderato part, which is also underlaid with a subtle Latin American rhythm, a solo trumpet introduces a new, melodic theme. Trombones and sax form the "background", while other trumpets with glass mutes provide a "splash of color". The solo trumpet is replaced by a combined wood-sax section in a wide range, which finally leads back to the "ff"-vivo part (I), supplemented by brass. - Repetition - Reprise: After a transition starting in the "p" and reaching to the "ff" the main theme follows again, which in the repetition - different from the first presentation - is now accompanied by trumpets, trombones, saxophones and rhythm winging in the 4/ 4-stroke is interpreted. - The middle section, as at the beginning, is taken over by the wood and saxophones, and then leads to the main theme, which is taken over by the entire orchestra. The work ends in an attractive finale.
