Brief description |
Since 1963, the world-famous winter sports resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen has been home to the music corps of the 1st Mountain Division, or the "Gebingmusikkorps" for short, which was formed in Sonthofen in 1956 and was stationed in Munich and Mittenwsald in the meantime.
The repertoire of the approximately 55 musicians of our Edelweiss is diverse, and so are the musical formations in which they perform. These range from classical woodwind and brass chamber ensembles to a saxophone duartet and various dance music formations such as combo and big band. The folk element is formed by Egerländer and Oberkrainer. Typical "Alpine music" is provided by an alphorn group and the "Seubn Musi" with zither, hackbreit, guitar and bass.
The centrepiece, however, is and remains the large Sinfan brass orchestra. Whether it is on the occasion of a high state visit or a solemn pledge of young conscripts, the musicians in uniform always give these occasions a dignified, military-musical framework. At the same time, they pursue one of their main tasks: namely, the cultivation of marching music.
Another important task is the cultivation of symphonic wind music. Here, the mountain musicians have repeatedly demonstrated their skills in countless charity concerts and at the same time supported charitable organisations. The amount raised for such causes so far runs into the millions.
In addition to the 180 or so performances a year, most of which take place in southern Bavaria, but with detours to northern federal states, tours and invitations to international military music meetings abroad are almost the order of the day. |
