Composer Reinl, Franz Josef
Arranger Ebner, Stefan
Difficulty level 4
Duration 04:45
Additional info/contents Franz Reinl's "Exotic Picture Book" unfolds like a colorful journey through distant lands and strange worlds. The orchestral sound is vibrant and rich in detail; each instrument seems to tell its own story, its own landscape, its own essence.

Stefan Ebner arranged the second movement of Reinl's Orchestral Suite for modern wind orchestra.
He succeeded in capturing the exotic world of Cameroon for modern wind orchestra while never losing sight of the style and character of Reinl's original composition.

Exotic drums make the rhythm pulsate like the heart of the wild jungle.
One hears bright and shimmering woodwind instruments gliding across exotic stages like warm sunlight.

The melodies are catchy. They have a magically vague quality, blending minor and major, thus arousing curiosity and building suspense. Harmonically, there are rich color shifts, modal twists, occasional harmonic reflections, dissonances that dissolve, like shadows that fade away.

From the quiet, almost whispering introduction to the orchestral climaxes: an interplay of intimacy and expanse. At times almost poetically withdrawn, in others powerful and colorful.

From the very first note, you feel transported to a world that is dreamy, mysterious, but also incredibly vibrant. The music creates images, like a sound film without a picture: it paints entire landscapes in your mind, like the majestic Mount Cameroon, whose shadow extends far into the landscape.

In the end, a feeling of strangeness and familiarity remains at the same time. An exoticism that intrigues but doesn't overwhelm. A picture book that you explore, where you want to pause to savor individual sound details, at the same time a journey that takes you on a journey that amazes you and invites you to dream.
