Additional info/contents	John Rutter composed his Gloria in 1974 as a commissioned work for an American choir from Nebraska, which premiered it in May 1974. Like many composers before him, Rutter sets the Latin text of the Gloria from the liturgy to music. In doing so, he consciously places himself in the overall Christian tradition. However, it is rather unusual for the Gloria to be composed as a separate work, not as part of a complete mass. John Rutter wrote the Gloria for choir, large brass ensemble, organ and percussion (timpani and other percussion instruments). The full brass section, with 4 trumpets, 3 trombones and tuba, is particularly distinctive. This instrumentation gives the Gloria an enormous richness of sound, which makes the glory (Latin gloria) audible. The transcription for choir and concert band is compatible with the original piano score from Oxford Music Press.
