Jirka Kadlec's arrangement for solo instrument and wind orchestra expands the work in an artful way and brings it into an orchestral context that offers both the soloist and the orchestra great expressive possibilities. Kadlec succeeds in maintaining the virtuoso demands and lyrical character of the original while at the same time creating additional tonal dimensions through the rich instrumentation of the wind orchestra. In this arrangement, "Air Varié" remains a fascinating and demanding work that challenges both soloists and orchestra at the highest musical and technical level.
