Additional info/contents	The march was composed in the summer of 1864 during the composer's annual trip to Russia. The composer used a Persian melody in the trio and dedicated the march to the Persian Shah Naser ad-Din Shah. In return he received a Persian medal. In Russia the march was the most popular Strauss work from the guest performance in 1864. In Vienna the success came more hesitantly. Today the march is one of the frequently played pieces by Johann Strauss (son).
