Composer Asanger, Thomas
Difficulty level 2
Duration 3:30
Additional info/contents “The Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond” is a Scottish traditional. The song tells of “Loch Lomond”, the largest lake in Scotland and the entire island of Great Britain, with an area of 71 square kilometers. The “bonnie banks” refer to the characteristic, beautiful banks of the lake.

“Loch Lomond” has been interpreted by countless artists of different genres over many decades. The Austrian composer and conductor Thomas Asanger first came into contact with the melody during his student days. In addition to the large number of existing arrangements for choir, he had a version for wind orchestra in mind. The present work begins with a solo presentation of the theme by English horn, alto saxophone or trumpet. Little by little, the initially delicate instrumentation grows and culminates in a radiant grandioso. LOCH LOMOND combines musical simplicity with high emotionality in a wonderful way. This makes the work the ideal repertoire for orchestras of all sizes and for all types of occasions.
