The Austrian composer and conductor Thomas Asanger first came into contact with the melody during his student days. In addition to the large number of existing arrangements for choir, he had a version for wind orchestra in mind. The present work begins with a solo presentation of the theme by English horn, alto saxophone or trumpet.
