Composer Appermont, Bert
Difficulty level 4+
Evaluation level of countries D5 (German highest level)
Duration 11:30
Additional info/contents This work was inspired by the legend of Klokkeven, in which a church bell plays the main role. It runs like a common thread through the entire composition. The work consists of three continuous movements, each of which has its own mood and character. In The Black Robber, dark sounds in the brass and fast chromatic motifs can be heard. The Swamp contains mysterious low parallel fifths, evocative solos and dissonant harmonies. Finally, in The Bell, tender, contemplative solos are accompanied by the hopeful ringing of a church bell in the distance. After a series of tempo changes, the piece ends in a large tutti.

The legend tells of the Klokkeven bell, which hangs in the tower of a remote church in a small village. The bell is said to have magical powers and is able to protect its surroundings and influence the fate of villagers.

The Belgian composer Bert Appermont immortalized this legend in his composition "Legend of the Bell" for symphonic wind orchestra. The music brings the mystical atmosphere of the legend to life and takes listeners on a musical journey into the world of magic and wonder. Through the sophisticated instrumentation, the dynamic contrasts and the gripping melody, Appermont creates a sound experience that impressively reflects the emotionally charged history of the Klokkeven bell. The music takes listeners on a journey of excitement, magic and hope as the history of the bell and its impact on the village is revealed.

Since its premiere, Bert Appermont's composition "Legend of the Bell" for symphonic wind orchestra has won a number of awards and has become an integral part of the repertoire of many wind orchestras around the world. The gripping portrayal of the legend of Klokkeven through music has always thrilled and fascinated listeners.

The connection between the legend of Klokkeven and Bert Appermont's musical interpretation in "Legend of the Bell" shows the creative power of music to bring stories to life and inspire the imagination of listeners. This composition is an impressive example of music's ability to awaken emotions and transport us to fascinating worlds.
