Additional info/contents	Due to kidney problems, Maarten den Boer (Netherlands) struggled with life and with himself at a young age. Dialysis? Home dialysis? Accepting a kidney from the family? It became an emotional battle for principles and self-esteem, in which others also got involved. After 5 years of dialysis and home dialysis, Maarten underwent a kidney transplant on 14 November 1984. Maarten is grateful to many people who stood by him during his "life struggle", such as his mother, who was always there for him during the five-hour home dialysis three times a week, and those who donated their kidneys after his death. Every year on 14 November, Maarten celebrates his second birthday. I played in the brass band with Maarten and we became friends. In 2019, 35 years after his kidney transplant, he asked me to write a composition for him: "Battle of Life".
