Additional info/contents Lux Futura ("Light of the Future") was commissioned by the Royal Delft Wind Orchestra and is based on the letters "D-E-L-F-T" using the notation system of Béla Bartók. This musical theme, inspired by the name Delft, also refers to the Trinitas bell or Bourdon bell of the Oude Kerk in Delft, which is only rung for funerals of members of the Dutch royal family. The "Delft Melody" segues into the "Agneta March", which refers to the history of the Royal Delft Wind Orchestra. In addition, the "love theme" played by the bass instruments represents the love of the locals for their city throughout history. In the middle movement, the beauty of the city is represented with a solo by the English horn, a kind of ode to the pretty city of Delft. For the performance, samples recorded in Delft can be used with sounds from the city to create a truly magnificent spectacle. The three samples can be downloaded from the websites www.halleonardeurope.com or www.kevinhouben.be.

The city of Delft, picturesquely located in the Dutch province of South Holland, is a pearl of history and culture. Its roots go back to the 11th century, when it was founded as a small settlement on a river. Over the centuries, Delft grew into a thriving trading city, known for its ceramics, particularly the famous Delft Blue, and its important historic buildings.

One of Delft's outstanding sights is the Oude Kerk, the "Old Church", whose origins date back to the 13th century. The Oude Kerk is not only the oldest church building in the city, but also an important site in Dutch history. Its impressive exterior and rich furnishings make it an architectural jewel.

A special feature of the Oude Kerk is the Trinitas bell, also known as the Bourdon bell. This bell is not only one of the largest bells in the Netherlands, but also one of the oldest. Their melodic sound has filled the air of Delft for centuries and is closely linked to the city's history.

The Trinitas Bell was cast in the 15th century and is a masterpiece of bell casting. Her name "Trinitas" refers to the Christian Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, which is venerated in the church. The bell served not only liturgical purposes, but also served as a signal to the residents of Delft, be it for church services, celebrations or emergencies.

Over the centuries, the Trinitas Bell has witnessed many historical events. It rang at royal weddings, funerals of famous people and other important occasions. During the turbulent times of the Reformation, the Oude Kerk played an important role as a center of Protestant faith, and the Trinitas Bell heralded the new ideas and reforms.

A sad chapter in the history of the Trinitas Bell and the Oude Kerk was the devastating fire of 1536, which destroyed large parts of the church. But the bell survived the fire and was re-hung as a symbol of hope and reconstruction.

Today, the Trinitas Bell is not only a significant historical artifact, but also a tourist attraction that attracts visitors from around the world. Their majestic presence in the Oude Kerk is a reminder of Delft's rich past and underlines the importance of this charming city in Dutch history.
