Additional info/contents	The following 'Ave Verum' is originally a 1823 work for four-part choir and organ by Camille Saint-Saëns. That this forgotten gem of musical literature is not performed more often and is not as famous as Mozart's version of the 'Ave Verum' is a mystery. Perhaps too much attention was paid to other 'blockbusters' by Saint-Saens like his 'Carnival des Animaux' which caused this Ave Verum to fade into the background somewhat. During the period of his Ave Verum, Saint-Saens taught at the 'Ecole Niedermeyer', which tried to raise the level of French church music. This 'Ave Verum' probably served as a model for his students (including André Messager and Gabriel Fauré). Luc Vertommen's version for brass band is one with lots of sound and colour contrasts.
