Additional info/contents	The future needs courage! But courage does not mean being free of doubt or fear. The piece “Space Cowboys” tells the story of Willi, a little boy plagued by self-doubt who has a dream: He wants to be an astronaut. At some point he plucks up the courage. He leaves his doubts behind and does it “anyway”. In spite of everyone and everything, because he feels it inside him: This is his destiny, even if of course he doesn’t know how it will end! That is real heroism. “Space Cowboys” marks Thomas Murauer’s entry into youth literature with a score that moves virtuosically between jazz and classical orchestral style. The work, which was awarded as part of the Symphonic Wind Composers Project 2019/2020, is divided into 4 parts: Part 1 is a short, suspenseful fanfare. Part 2 is intended to give young musicians a first insight into jazz phrasing. These phrasings are lyrical, fun and help young musicians understand voice leading and jazz phrasing. Great attention should be paid to timing. Part 3 takes up the fanfare theme again in an incredibly colorful and emotional way and is further developed lyrically. Part 4 presents an impressive final fanfare by combining both themes.
