Stories of ladies and knights fill the chronicles of the Renaissance and provided inspiration for the composition of this imaginative suite.

A reception takes place in an old castle, the location of which is unknown. Many distinguished guests are expected, including a legendary and beautiful lady. A woman whose defining characteristic is always wearing red clothing, earning her the nickname Red Lady.

The entry into the lady's court (first movement) immediately attracts the attention of the numerous knights present, but especially that of the landowner, the prince. The Prince's attention to the Red Lady becomes increasingly evident and leads to a public declaration of love (second movement, Theme A), which immediately causes the dissatisfaction of the other knights (Theme B), who had hoped to win the Red Lady's favor. But in response to the prince's welcome attentions, the lady also sings the sweet melody of love, dispelling all doubts and destroying the hopes of the other knights.

As in any reputable secular chronicle, the day at the castle ends with a final dance attended by all guests. The dance develops in the form of a rondo, the secondary themes of which are none other than the A and B themes of the second movement, appropriately adapted to the 6/8 time, as if they summarize the most important moments of the lively day.
