Programme notes *: The Polka Mazurka "Ice Flower" is a well-known work by the Austrian composer Eduard Strauss (1835-1916). Eduard Strauss came from the famous Strauss dynasty, which is known for its significant contributions to Viennese waltz and light music. The Polka Mazur "Eisblume" is one of the many works that Eduard Strauss composed and conducted during his career. Eduard Strauss was the third son of Johann Strauss father and the younger brother of Johann Strauss son (also known as the "Waltz King"). The Strauss family had a major influence on 19th century musical life in Vienna with their rousing waltzes, polkas and other dance music. The polka Mazur "Ice Flower" is a characteristic example of the dance music that made the Strauss family famous.
