This monastery, which has a long and rich history, served as the inspiration for the epic and emotional composition "On the Way to 100 Years" for wind orchestra by Nuno Osório. Osório, a well-known Portuguese composer, created this work with the intention of creating a musical narrative that would be like a movie trailer - full of drama, emotion and celebration. The Lorvão Monastery was founded in 878, originally as a Benedictine monastery. Over the centuries it has been rebuilt and expanded several times, becoming one of Portugal's most important religious and cultural centers. The monastery played a central role during the Reconquista, the Christian reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula from the Moors.
