In 2015, a spectacular find in the small church in the Frisian village of Schettens caused a stir: a rare helmet from the Middle Ages was discovered during renovation work in the church.

The helmet, believed to date from the 12th or 13th century, was found in a locked room in the attic. It is made of iron and features eye-catching decoration with delicate patterns and symbols. According to experts, it is a so-called "pot helmet" that was typical of knight's armor in the Middle Ages.

The discovery of the helmet caused great interest among archaeologists and historians, as the find is extremely rare in this region. It is believed that the helmet may have been lost in connection with a battle or tournament that took place nearby.

The Schettens Church is now planning to make the helmet accessible to the public and present it in an exhibition. The find is expected to contribute to research and documentation of the region's historical heritage.

The rare helmet from Schettens is an impressive testament to times past and will undoubtedly help to further stimulate interest in the history and culture of this region. The discovery of the helmet will certainly remain in the memory of the residents of Schettens and beyond for a long time.
