Programme notes *: additional text

The dwarf planet "Eris", once hidden at the very edge of our solar system, came into the focus of the astronomical community in 2006 when it was officially added to the list of dwarf planets. This discovery inspired composer Daniel Muck to write a symphonic tone poem of the same name that musically explores the mysterious and fascinating nature of this celestial body.

The composition "Eris" by Daniel Muck is an artistic masterpiece that captures the various aspects and characteristics of the dwarf planet and translates them into an impressive soundscape. The work features an impressive variety of moods and timbres that reflect the deep mysteries and splendour of Eris.

The music begins with an imposing chord that highlights the symbolic significance of this "tenth" planet. A calm and gentle passage captures the quiet mysteries and subtle powers of the dwarf planet. Melodic lines glide through space like floating objects, creating an atmosphere of contemplation and reflection. Here, the inner world of Eris is revealed as the orchestra captures the subtle nuances of the sounds with sensitive instrumentation.

The composition continues its journey by taking up different sections that musically interpret the many facets of Eris. Sonorous orchestrations and powerful melodies create an atmosphere of wonder and discovery, taking the listener on a journey through the vastness of the solar system. Here, the size and importance of Eris is impressively portrayed, as the orchestra paints the majestic picture of the dwarf planet with impressive dynamics and energy.

As the composition progresses, it reaches its climax when it leads to spherical and powerful sounds. This finale expresses the powerful presence and influence of Eris on the solar system. Sonic explosions and triumphant motifs create a sense of grandeur and draw attention to the size of this distant dwarf planet.
