Composer Zurwerra, Eduard
Difficulty level 3
Duration 4:00
Additional info/contents The composer writes:
This march is dedicated to Leonardo Pacozzi, my predecessor as conductor of the Stadtmusik Saltina. Leonardo was a role model for me in my youth and later a good mentor. And Leonardo - also a gifted trumpeter - had a "photographic musical memory", so to speak. If he played a piece 2 - 3 times, he could interpret it by heart.
Although this march composition is also formally divided into 3 parts (introduction, 1st + 2nd part), the march does not correspond to the usual harmony and traditional march scheme. After the bass solo, the march modulates to A major in the trio, and this is not repeated
but is through-composed and changes to D flat major in the final section.
Two quotations are integrated into the composition: One only hinted at from the Singspiel "Gantertal" and the other a fragment from Anton Bruckner's symphonic work. The bass line is kept melodic and takes an unusual course. In bars 19 - 20, 23 - 24, 27 - 28 and 31 - 32, the afterbeats of the horns and trombones should take on a swinging character.
