Additional info/contents "On The Track" was commissioned in 2016 by the "Tonspuren Mühlviertel" festival of the Upper Austrian Wind Music Association. Fritz Neuböck goes in search of traces of the great Austrian composer Anton Bruckner, who was closely connected to the Mühlviertel throughout his life. He uses motifs from the "Three Little Piano Pieces", an early work by Bruckner during his time as a teacher in Windhaag near Freistadt, as well as from one of his late choral works, the well-known "Ave Maria". Both themes run like a thread through the composition.
At the beginning of the work, in the midst of a majestic brass fanfare, the first tentative motifs from the Ave Maria are heard before the orchestra sets off in search of traces in a very cheerful and lively manner. In the very minimalist middle section, these motifs appear again and again briefly, only to return later to the original Allegro con spirito. The work's calm pole is formed by the middle movement, which is intended to express Anton Bruckner's inner peace and deep religiosity. The finale begins with a typical Bruckner scherzo, based on a motif from the three little piano pieces, which leads into the Ave Maria. The Scherzo theme initially overlaps the Ave Maria in the woodwinds, later only as an ostinato rhythm in the percussion, before the late choral work resounds in its full beauty.

The composition "On The Track" by Fritz Neuböck was commissioned in 2016 by the renowned festival "Tonspuren Mühlviertel" of the Upper Austrian Wind Music Association. This work represents a fascinating search for traces of the important Austrian composer Anton Bruckner, who had close ties to the Mühlviertel throughout his life. Neuböck takes the listener on a musical journey using motifs from Bruckner's "Three Little Piano Pieces", an early work from his time as a teacher in Windhaag near Freistadt, as well as from the well-known late choral work "Ave Maria". These two themes are skilfully interwoven and run like a thread through the entire composition.

The work begins with a majestic brass fanfare that sets the stage for the first delicate motifs of the "Ave Maria". This prelude already reveals the distinctive sounds and moods that are further elaborated in the course of the composition. The cheerful and buoyant search for traces of Bruckner sets in, with the orchestra acting with lightness and energy.

A notable highlight of the composition is the minimalist middle section, in which motifs from the "Ave Maria" appear briefly again and again, creating a subtle connection to Bruckner's profound creativity. This section gives the work a certain depth and reflective quality before returning to the original "Allegro con spirito".

The middle movement of the piece functions as a haven of peace and is intended to express Anton Bruckner's inner serenity as well as his deep religiosity. Here, Neuböck creates an atmosphere of inner reflection and spiritual contemplation, achieved through gentle melodies and harmonic progressions.

The finale of the work begins with a scherzo, characteristic of Bruckner, based on a motif from the "Three Little Piano Pieces". This scherzo theme is cleverly interwoven with the "Ave Maria", initially in the woodwinds and later as an ostinato rhythm in the percussion. Finally, the "Ave Maria" reaches a glorious climax in all its splendour and beauty, bringing the work to an emotional conclusion.

Fritz Neuböck's "On The Track" is an impressive musical homage to the great Austrian composer Anton Bruckner. By skilfully using motifs from Bruckner's works, Neuböck succeeds in building a bridge between past and present and interpreting Bruckner's musical essence in a contemporary way. The composition testifies to Neuböck's deep respect for Bruckner's legacy and is an impressive example of the combination of traditional musical heritage with modern compositional techniques. "On The Track" leaves a lasting impression on the listener and illustrates Fritz Neuböck's artistic mastery.
