Additional info/contents	Curupira is a mythological figure from Brazilian folklore. According to legend, he is a dwarf-like creature with flaming red hair and feet twisted backwards. He often comes riding on a peccary, a wild boar, and demands tobacco and cachaça, a Brazilian liquor. He has great powers and pursues and punishes all those who do not respect nature. A Lenda do Curupira is a symphonic poem that musically represents the characteristics of the Curupira. But the piece also has a political and ecological message: in times of ongoing destruction of the rainforest and the construction of dams in the middle of the Amazon region, it is a desperate call for Curupira to come back and protect nature. A Lenda do Curupira was commissioned by the Swiss Brass Band Association and its 40th anniversary in 2014. It was written after a long period of studying Brazilian music. Not only popular styles such as samba, bossa nova or forró but also symphonic music by Heitor Villa-Lobos or César Guerra-Peixe and singer/songwriters such as Chicho Buarque de Hollan.
