Blots The twelve pieces in Jazz Fiesta cover a span of difficulty from easy to advanced intermediate. Thus it is a collection you can sample and enjoy over many years. Dialogue calls for a light touch and a casual mood. Listen to the conversation and answer phrases. In Etude, the melody in both hands at the octave races toward the sudden slowing in measure 7. Count carefully! The «blue» notes of Remembrance lead to a change of mood, a time for quiet reflection. In The Sea, lush harmonies evoke a picture of rolling waves. Contemporary harmonies add to the light and shade. Autumn Spirits includes syncopation in every measure. The careful use of pedal will aid the legato phrasing. With Blues «Mignon» we hear the characteristic swing rhythms of jazz, in which dotted rhythms are interpreted more like triplets. The ostinato bass line is also part of the blues tradition. Improvisation on an interesting harmonic sequence is the heart of jazz. This written-out Improvisation with wide spanning arpeggios and gorgeous harmonies demands maturity of technique and interpretation.
