Composer Brant, Henry
Additional info/contents Like many composers of the time, Brant worked in the 1930s and 40s in more commercial areas, in order to make a living. Film scores, jazz, and (what he would later refer to as) 'bland' concert music were the order of the day, frustrating the composer whose mind was overflowing with other sounds. In the early 1950s, however, he produced Galaxy I (and, for that matter, another chamber work Galaxy II), which were considered 'controversial,' a bit of a stretch for audiences at that time, but which were certainly true to Brant's vision of spatial writing.
