Additional info/contents The title of the composition "In aller Kürze"d has to rehearse the piece, but also on the conciseness of the musical information within the piece. The ensemble receives the music just before the competition. The conductor must then rehearse the most important passages "In aller Kürze" (very briefly) before performing for the jury. Also, the piece offers many different tone colors in a very brief time, presented in an arch-shaped framework. An imposing maestoso heralds both the beginning and end of the piece. However the middle section presents a soft moderato and a march-like passage in 6/8 time. The composition fulfills a saying by William Shakespeare: “Brevity is the soul of wit.”

"In aller Kürze" was commissioned in 2014 by the music publisher Rundel and was conceived from the beginning as an "hour choir" for the evaluation games of the district association Biberach in Ellwangen (Baden-Württemberg). (An orchestra must perform a work unknown to it in concert after one hour of preparation. This performance will be evaluated by a jury)

The varied parts of Thomas Asanger's concert work "In aller Kürze" also form a kind of "short story":

T. 1-20 Maestoso
T. 21-36 Moderato tranquillo
T. 37-45 Appasionato
T. 46-122 Tempo di Marcia
T.123/124 Grave
T. 125-136 Maestoso

The term "Briefly" in music refers to a musical form in which compositions or musical sections are deliberately kept short. These short pieces can span a variety of genres and styles and serve to present musical ideas succinctly and effectively. The term "in a nutshell" in music is characterized by its compact nature. These pieces or sections are typically short in duration, often with a clear and concise musical structure. The composers rely on simplicity and clarity to convey their message or idea in a limited musical space. This short form can appear in various contexts, including concert etudes, short character pieces, or even miniatures.

The conscious decision to create music “in a nutshell” can have various goals. Firstly, this form allows musical ideas to be presented effectively and without excessive baggage. Secondly, it offers the opportunity to convey a specific mood, characteristic or emotion in a limited time frame. Thirdly, brevity can also serve as a challenge for the composer to encapsulate his creative abilities.

Choosing short movements in music requires artistic sophistication. Composers must be able to focus their ideas on the essentials while still achieving deep artistic expression. This short form allows listeners to experience a variety of musical facets in a short period of time and offers composers the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in compositional conciseness. “In a nutshell” in music is a fascinating and challenging approach to composition. By deliberately limiting the music to short musical forms, not only is efficiency achieved in musical presentation, but it also creates space for creativity and art. These short pieces or sections have played a significant role in the history of music and continue to be used by composers to showcase artistic brilliance in a compact format.
