Additional info/contents	When the conductor Sylvia Baratti-Mannsbart asked me to write a piece for her Musikverein Atzenbach, it was immediately clear to me that it must be something "special". On the one hand it had to celebrate a double anniversary, namely the 900th village anniversary and at the same time the 150th anniversary of the association. On the other hand, Sylvia is a conductor and therefore also a client who knows exactly what she wants. So I tried in many conversations to find out what makes the village of Atzenbach and the Musikverein so special. In the process, more and more an idea crystallized. Atzenbach was created in the Wiesental valley in Baden on the river called Wiese - actually, one must even say that the village was created by the meadow. As a lifeline from the very beginning, the meadow became an important location factor for the textile industry - a river that flows persistently, as does life and history. Thanks to Greek philosophy, Sylvia finally came up with the brilliant idea: "Panta Rhei", i.e. "everything flows", became the title and meaning of my play. What one hears and what is meant by it - for me this is always one of the great misunderstandings in music. Long explanations about the meaning of a piece do not correspond to my understanding of music. Music should explain itself! But this much can be said: like the Vltava in Bedrich Smetana's famous composition of the same name, the meadow flows as a small brook at the beginning of the piece and slowly grows bigger and more powerful. The majestic "Panta Rhei" theme stands for the river meadow and the river of time. Individual stations in the history of the village are passed: The foundation is symbolized by an ancient dance. The "Modern Times", and with it the entry of the textile industry, resound with effects that are unusual for a brass band, representing the sound of spinning machines. Again and again the theme "Panta Rhei" returns and the composition finally ends in a glorious conclusion.
