As Bad Säckingen is widely known as the "trumpeter town", Sparke drew on the famous poem "Der Trompeter von Säckingen" by Joseph Victor Scheffel, which is based on a true story. The overture begins with a majestic fanfare, which leads to a festive molto vivace. This is then joined by a radiant trumpet signal.
