Composer Cesarini, Franco
Opus no. Op.43
Evaluation level of countries C5 (Swiss highest class); D5 (German highest level)
Duration 18:15
Additional info/contents Bulgarian folk music has a long tradition and numerous typical characteristics, such as particular dissonances and complex, irregular rhythms. In "Bulgarian Dances" (Part II) (which can be performed together with the previously published title "Bulgarian Dances") Franco Cesarini has preserved the original spirit of Bulgarian folk music, yet has imbued it with a symphonic character and brought it into the concert hall. The three different movements give us a meditative, moving folksong and a lively dance, before a distinctly symphonic part leads to a glittering finale.

"Bulgarian Dances" by Franco Cesarini is a fascinating composition for symphonic wind orchestra that captures the rich musical tradition of Bulgaria and transforms it into a dynamic and rousing work. The suite consists of three movements, each highlighting unique elements of Bulgarian folk music and dance culture.

The first movement, "Lale li si, zyumbyul li si, gyul li si", captures the lively atmosphere of a traditional Bulgarian dance. The melodies are full of energy and joy of life, while the rhythms reflect the movements and dynamics of the dancers. This sentence takes the listener into the picturesque landscape of Bulgaria and lets them feel the country's lively culture.

"Oi, Shope shope", the second movement, presents another multi-faceted Bulgarian dance. The melodies are lively and infectious, while the rhythms are complex and pulsating. This movement invites listeners to be carried away by the rhythmic energy and experience the joy of dancing.

The third movement, “Damba,” introduces listeners to a completely different mood. The music is characterized by a calm and melancholic atmosphere that evokes deep emotions and longings. The melodies are poignant and full of expressiveness, while the harmonies offer a rich sonic palette. This movement shows the versatility and emotional spectrum of the Bulgarian musical tradition.

Overall, "Bulgarian Dances Part II" by Franco Cesarini is a fascinating composition that impressively expresses the cultural diversity and musical beauty of Bulgaria. Through the lively melodies, stirring rhythms and emotional depth of the music, this suite invites listeners to embark on an unforgettable sonic journey through the heart of Bulgaria.
