Sinfonietta No. 1 was originally written for brass band, commissioned by the Dutch National Championships 2011 in Groningen. It also served as the test piece for the Swiss National Championships 2011 in Montreux, Switzerland. In 2012, Johan de Meij created this version for wind orchestra.Unlike most of Johan de Meij's compositions, Sinfonietta No. 1 is an abstract, non-programmatic work. It consists of three movements, in which the thematic material of the opening measures - an upward fifth jump - returns in various shapes and forms throughout the piece. The slow middle section features solo passages by cello, English horn and bassoon, all starting with the same fifth jump. The final movement presents an Elgar-like march theme, interspersed with quotes from the second movement, and ending with the opening theme of movement I.

A Sinfonietta is normally designed for a small composition and has often been described as a typical symphony. A Sinfonietta can be played in its formats, after the Vorlieben des Komponisten und den Anforderungen des Stücks. In Allgemeinen is a Sinfonietta jedoch kürzer and compact as a Sinfonie und cann weniger komplex in ihrer Struktur sein. You are often a member of the Chamber Orchestra or smaller ensembles, where the Besetzung typischerweise reduzierter is also one of the Symphonies.

These songs are based on musical characteristics and music, as well as on one symphony.

Insgesamt ist the Sinfonietta a several and flexible genre in the world of classical music. You are interested in a greater understanding of compositions, musical ideas and ideas for smaller ensembles that have been developed in detail, in accordance with the traditions and structures of the symphonies.
