Additional info/contents “Fiskinatura” was commissioned by the Fischen im Allgäu Concert Band for the 1150th anniversary of the village Fischen. It is dedicated to the band’s conductor, Prof. Maximilian Maria Jannetti.

To title his four-movement suite composer Thiemo Kraas selected a newly coined word combining “Fiskina”, the ancient name of the village, and “Natura”. Each movement is inspired by the ambiguity of the word “nature”, not requiring a strictly programmatic interpretation but rather offering impressions.

I. Intrada Jubilate
The first movement is a festive opening, symbolizing the bonds of people to their roots: trust, understanding and fellowship are three central ideas of this movement.

II. Scherzo Danzante
The power of nature is the topic of the second movement, shown by a musical picture of the Breitachklamm Gorge near Fischen. Stone, water, ice and snow form a fascinating natural phenomenon.

III. Intermezzo Pastorale
As the title implies, this movement pays homage to the beautiful Allgäu scenery.

IV. Finale
Human nature – different characters and personalities – and the nature of the countryside in all its facets create the unique feature of a place. All of these aspects form a composite of different impressions and experiences – the “spice” that makes a special place so special…

Fischen im Allgäu is an idyllic community in the Swabian district of Oberallgäu in Bavaria, Germany. The village is picturesquely embedded in the Illertal and is surrounded by the impressive Allgäu Alps. The history of fish goes back a long way. Originally the village was called "Fiskina", a name that is taken up in the composition "Fiskinatura" by Thiemo Kraas. The name "Fiskina" probably comes from Romansh and refers to the origins of the village.

Over the centuries, Fischen developed from an agricultural settlement into a popular holiday resort. Tourism became increasingly important, particularly in the 19th and 20th centuries, which contributed to economic development and the expansion of infrastructure.

Fischen is located in a beautiful alpine landscape, surrounded by impressive mountain peaks and picturesque valleys. The Breitachklamm, one of the deepest rocky gorges in Central Europe, is a special natural highlight in the region and attracts numerous visitors. This breathtaking gorge, created by thousands of years of erosion of the Breitach River, is an impressive example of the power of nature.

The composition "Fiskinatura" by Thiemo Kraas

The suite for wind orchestra "Fiskinatura" by Thiemo Kraas is a musical homage to Fischen im Allgäu. The title of the composition is a fusion of the terms “Fiskina” – the old village name – and “Natura”, reflecting the close connection between history and nature. The suite consists of four movements that address different aspects of the region and its nature.

I. Intrada Jubilate: The first movement, "Intrada Jubilate", is a festive opening music that expresses the feeling of closeness to home. Trust, understanding and connection as symbols of human nature are the central guiding principles of this sentence. The music is characterized by festive fanfares and lively rhythms that reflect the joy and togetherness of the people of Pisces.

II. Scherzo danzante: The second movement, "Scherzo danzante", deals with the power of nature, represented by a musical image of the Fischen Breitachklamm. The combination of stone, water, ice and snow forms a fascinating natural phenomenon that is portrayed in the music through dynamic and contrasting passages. The timbres and rhythms of this movement convey the wild beauty and impressive power of the gorge.

III. Intermezzo Pastorale: The third movement, "Intermezzo Pastorale", is a homage to the beautiful landscape of the Allgäu. Gentle melodies and harmonious sounds paint an idyllic picture of wide meadows, rolling hills and majestic mountains. This phrase exudes calm and peace and captures the natural beauty and pastoral atmosphere of the region.

IV. Finale: The fourth movement, "Finale", addresses human nature in all its facets as well as the nature of the country. The most diverse characters and personalities of the residents of Fischen and the diverse landscapes of the region are brought together in this musical representation. The movement is characterized by lively rhythms and powerful melodies that celebrate the diversity and richness of the region.

The composition "Fiskinatura" by Thiemo Kraas is a moving and impressive suite that musically captures the beauty and character of Fischen in the Allgäu. The four movements of the suite offer a varied and profound listening experience that reflects the close connection between the history of the place and its impressive nature. Through the clever fusion of historical and natural elements, Kraas creates a musical work that touches and inspires both the residents of Fischen and listeners worldwide.
