Difficulty level 5
Evaluation level of countries D6 (German highest class)
Duration 14:45
Additional info/contents "Gaudi" is the first part of a two-part symphony that Ferrer Ferran dedicated to the famous Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi. In several stages, Ferran traces the life of the brilliant architect and master of round, organic forms: from the humble beginnings to the Sagrada Familia, which became a life's work. Like Gaudi's architecture, the musical lines are fluid and organic and the structure is large-scale, colorful and fascinating.

Antoni Gaudí i Cornet, born on June 25, 1852 in Reus, Catalonia, and died on June 10, 1926 in Barcelona, was an outstanding Catalan architect and a key figure of Modernisme, a Catalan form of Art Nouveau. Gaudí left behind an impressive legacy of architectural masterpieces known for their organic forms, colorful details, and innovative structures.

Gaudí's professional career began with studying architecture in Barcelona, where he quickly distinguished himself as a talented and original architect. His early works already show neo-Gothic influences, but it was his collaboration with the industrialist Eusebi Güell that shaped his style and led to some of his most notable works.

One of Gaudí's most important works is the Sagrada Família basilica in Barcelona, which he took over in 1883 and ran until his death. This monumental place of worship is an outstanding example of Gaudí's unique style, combining organic forms, natural inspiration and religious symbols. Although the Sagrada Família is not yet fully completed, it impresses visitors worldwide with its impressive architecture.

Another of Gaudí's masterpieces is Park Güell, which was designed as a garden city and represents a harmonious combination of architecture and nature. The colorful mosaics, organic shapes and characteristic dragon figures make this park a popular tourist destination.

Gaudí's innovative thinking also extended to residential buildings, such as Casa Batlló and Casa Milà, also known as La Pedrera. These buildings demonstrate Gaudí's penchant for curved lines, unusual facade elements and the integration of craftsmanship into architecture.

What made Gaudí special was not only his artistic vision, but also his technical innovations. He experimented with hyperboloids, paraboloids, and other geometric shapes to create structures that were not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional.

Antoni Gaudí died at the age of 73 after a traffic accident. Although many of his works did not receive the recognition during his lifetime that they enjoy today, they are now recognized as highlights of architectural history. Gaudí's influence extends far beyond his hometown of Barcelona, and his legacy lives on in his impressive creations, inspiring people from around the world.
