Additional info/contents Commissioned by Nara Ikuei Junior and Senior High School Band in cerebration of 50th anniversary of the school. The first performance was done in 28th Nara Ikuei Junior and Senior High School Band Annual Concert with the band director Keiji Hirooka conducting. Kokei (Decenber 29, 1648-August 30, 1705) was a priest of Sanron-syu, one of Buddhism denominations, and he is known as a person who did his best to rebuild the Hall of Great Buddha at Todai-ji Temple. He had grieved over the burnt out of the hall because of the war and the Great Buddha being exposed in the rain. He decided to rebuild the hall and got permission from the Tokugawa Shogunate. He kept promoting fund-raising all over Japan until his death in Edo after getting over a lot of problems. He died in 1705 and he could not attend the cereblation ceremony of the completion of the hall. Satoshi Yagisawa, the composer of this piece, happened to watch a documantary program, which was about Kokei and the Hall of the Great Buddha, during the flight to Singapore, and the impression made him compose this piece.
