Difficulty level 3
Duration 3:20
Additional info/contents Originally intended for the Australian Bicentennary of 1988, here is a march with a very Australian title. Little Ripper refers to anything or anybody exciting or successful. So, here is an exciting little march for young group to successfully execute.

It sits best at dotted quarter note = 120. It is important to bring out all accented notes, and all articulations should be detached unless specifically slurred. Although the composer has designated some instruments as 'optional' the soprano saxophone as highly desirable in this work in terms of the tone quality it brings. The mallet percussion parts at Letter D need to be brought out as much as possible and performed in a very brittle manner. The timpani part, although important, should be subordinate to the mallets here. The horns need to raise their bells in the sixth measure after Letter G and play in as brassy a manner as possible. The bass drum in the measure before Letter J needs to be huge. The tam-tam entrance is vital eight measures before the end. Although intended as a 'simple' march for younger players, it actually needs a fairly mature ensemble to bring out the necessary swagger and energy, while retaining the necessary precision.
