Additional info/contents The Prager Festmusik (Festive Music of Prague) is a typical composition by Zdenek Lukaš. Lyrical and expansive, festive passages alternate with dramatic, sharply rhythmic sections. The instrument groups and their timbres are also juxtaposed, with radiant trumpets, horns and trombones on one side and soft cornets/winged horns and woodwinds on the other. Zdenek Lukaš knows how to give the 'Prague Festival Music' a very solemn and always forward-looking character by combining various rhythmic groups in addition to the tonal ones. Duoly and trioly rhythms work against each other and complement each other at the same time, without making the piece seem hectic or depriving it of its sublimity.

Programme notes *: additional text

Prag is the capital and at the same time the most populous city of the Czech Republic. With over 1.3 million inhabitants, Prague ranks fifteenth among the largest cities in the European Union. The capital Prague is one of the 14 regions of the Czech Republic and one of the richest regions in Europe.

The nickname "Golden City" refers to the sandstone towers that shimmer in golden hues when the sun shines on them. Another explanation for this name is that Emperor Charles IV had the towers of Prague Castle gilded. In addition, the city was a centre of attraction for alchemists during the reign of Rudolf II. The name "City of a Hundred Towers" has also been known for several centuries and derives from the numerous towers that characterize the historical cityscape.
