Additional info/contents	There are various legends and traditions associated with Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales. The Eagles of Snowdon have long been regarded as oracles of war or peace, triumph or disaster. When they circled high in the sky, victory was within reach. But if they flew low and screeched, it meant disaster was in the offing. One such legend tells the story of a village on the coast over which the eagles flew low and screeched. As the inhabitants knew that a catastrophe was about to happen, they were scared to death. After long, fearful days of waiting, the disaster announced itself in the form of a metre-high tidal wave. The inhabitants fled as fast as they could, leaving all their possessions behind to save themselves. The village was completely flooded and destroyed by the tidal wave. Once safe, the residents realised that the disaster had been defeated. There was great joy and a gigantic feast broke out that lasted for several days. After this celebration, the inhabitants of the destroyed village began building a new village, high in the mountains and far from the coast.
