Additional info/contents Cortège, Choral et Farandole is one of those works that represent pure playing pleasure for any orchestra, regardless of its level. André Waignein attached great importance to the choice of keys, the position and the instrumentation in order to make it particularly easy to play. The work is divided into three movements. The first, Cortège, has a very impressive effect right from the start with its majestic step and tone solemn. The second movement, Chorale, is more cheerful in character and invites meditation. Farandole, the third movement, seems lively on the other hand. From the first bar it is full of exuberant happiness, jubilation and joy of life.

The terms "Cortège, Choral et Farandole" originally come from the musical suite "L'Arlésienne" by Georges Bizet. Roland Kernen's composition also presents three different movements, each characterized by their unique styles and musical characteristics.

The term "Cortège" refers to a festive parade or procession. The music is characterized by rhythmic elements, solemn melodies and dynamic contrasts, which gives the listener the image of a celebratory march.

The term "chorale" has its roots in the chorale musical tradition and refers to a hymn-like singing style. The chorale is characterized by its long, singable melodies and conveys a deep emotional intensity that offers the listener space for contemplation.

The Farandole is a traditional circle dance often performed in a festive context. In the third movement, Kernen returns to this folkloric dance form. The Farandole is lively, rhythmic and full of energy. The piece captures the cheerful atmosphere of a dance in which the dancers move through the streets in a joyful procession. The music is characterized by fast tempos, playful melodies and an infectious enthusiasm.

The combination of cortège, chorale and farandole in Roland Kernen's suite offers the listener a multi-layered and varied musical experience. The different styles not only reflect the diversity of culture, but also enable a sonic journey through different emotional states - from the solemnity of a parade to the contemplation of a chorale to the joy of life of a folkloric dance.

The terms Cortège, Choral et Farandole in music are not just musical names. Each movement helps create a unique mood, and together they form a sonic journey that captivates listeners.
