Additional info/contents When the famous composer Julius Fucík became bandmaster of the Infantry Regiment (IR) No. 86 in Sarajevo in 1897, important phases of his life were already behind him: his school education and studies at the Prague Conservatory, as well as his military service with the IR 49 (1891-94) under bandmaster Joseph Franz Wagner.

Julius Fucík felt very comfortable in Sarajevo. He wrote his first compositions that marked him as one of the first regimental bandmasters in Austria-Hungary, including his monumental work "Austria's Glory and Honor". And he also introduced concerts for symphony orchestras with great success. When the regiment was relocated to the Hungarian capital Budapest in 1900, further opportunities opened up for the ambitious bandmaster and composer. Some of his most beautiful compositions were written in Budapest, including the world march “The Regimental Children” op. 169 from 1905, with its distinctive whistled melody in the trio.
