Additional info/contents Kees Vlak paints impressive sound pictures of a fantastic future in the overture Lord of Seven Seas.
An attractive and fascinating work for good upper-level orchestras.

It is the year 3000. Space travel determines the connection from Earth to the planets. Wars between the peoples on Earth no longer exist. Only a single, huge spaceship that can navigate both above and below the water monitors the oceans.
This ship, the 'Lord of Seven Seas', is a hundred times larger than the 'Nautilus' or the 'Titanic' and of course cannot be compared with a ship of our day.
In the introduction to the overture, the giant ship is introduced by means of a musical style that is somewhat reminiscent of science fiction space series.
This is followed by a fragment dominated by rain and storm, which has similarities with the saga of the "Flying Dutchman".
The middle section is in the form of a barcarole. In the depths of the Arctic Ocean, the ship investigates the fauna. The people on board enjoy the silence under water and the diversity and beauty of the animal world.
Finally, in the last part, the majestic giant ship rises above the surface of the water and flies from one ocean to another. The grandiose ending once again paints an impressive picture of the incomparable sight of the Lord of Seven Seas.
With the expressive and stylistic means of a contemporary tonal language, Kees Vlak describes the voyages and adventures of this spaceship of the future in the overture.

It was a time of limitless dreams and unlimited possibilities when the "Lord of Seven Seas" first saw the world. This massive (space) ship, a hundred times larger than the 'Nautilus' or the 'Titanic', rose majestically above the seas and heralded an era of exploration and adventure. In the sounds of a contemporary musical language, the "Lord of Seven Seas" was presented in an overture that was reminiscent of the fascinating melodies of science fiction space series.

The Lord of Seven Seas began its voyage in a storm that gave rise to the legend of the Flying Dutchman. Rain lashed the spaceship's gigantic windows as lightning lit up the sky. The ship, undeterred by the elements, crossed the oceans with a majestic calm reminiscent of the mythical fate of the Dutchman.

Inside the Lord of Seven Seas, a soothing barcarole sounded as the ship explored the depths of the Arctic Ocean. Here, beneath the icy mantle of water, a fascinating world was revealed. The crew enjoyed the silence underwater, listened to the gentle songs of the sea creatures and marveled at the diversity and beauty of the fauna. A ballet of glowing fish accompanied the majestic ship on its expedition.

In the last part of the overture, the "Lord of Seven Seas" rose majestically above the surface of the water and floated into the air like a phoenix. Using the expressive and stylistic means of a contemporary musical language, the ship accelerated across the oceans, from one horizon to the next. The magnificent final sequence painted an incomparable picture of this wonderful spaceship that pushed the boundaries of what was possible.

The "Lord of Seven Seas" became a symbol of human curiosity and the irrepressible urge to explore the mysteries of the world. Her overture, composed by Kees Vlak, captures the epic journeys and adventures of this futuristic spaceship that captured the hearts of those inspired by the longing for discovery.
