Evaluation level of countries A3 (Austrian C level); D4 (German upper level); C3 (Swiss 2nd class)
Duration 8:00
Additional info/contents In this work, Dutch composer Carl Wittrock presents us with his own view of Irish folk-music, which results in a richly varied tripartite composition. Stirring, challenging, and inspirational Irish folk-music set in a continental jacket. Lord Tullamore contains both passages of technical brilliance and moments of lyrical calm. It is up to conductors and musicians to communicate these three extremes to the listeners. A work that undoubtedly will loosen many a person's tongue in more than one way!

Lord Tullamore, also known as Charles Moore, was born in Ireland in 1712 and was the first Earl of Charleville, a title bestowed on him by King George II in 1758. His family, the Moores, had deep-rooted connections in Irish society and played a significant role in Irish history and politics.

Lord Tullamore is particularly well known for his contributions to the development of the town of Tullamore in County Offaly. Under his leadership and influence, the city grew into an important commercial and cultural center. His commitment to the local community and his vision for the future of Tullamore left a lasting impression on the area.

Carl Wittrock's composition "Lord Tullamore" is a tribute to this remarkable man and his city. This three-part suite for concert band reflects the complex personality and legacy of Lord Tullamore. The composition is noted for its brilliant technical passages that highlight the virtuosity of the musicians and its lyrical resting points that provide moments of reflection and contemplation.

The first part of the composition is characterized by energetic and dynamic melodies that symbolize the vitality and progress of Tullamore during Lord Tullamore's era. The technical challenges in this section challenge the musicians and reflect the complexity and drive of the Earl.

The second part is dominated by a lyrical, tranquil melody that captures the quieter and reflective aspects of Lord Tullamore's character. These passages create an atmosphere of reflection and recall the moments of peace and contemplation that were just as much a part of his life and leadership.

The third movement brings the work to a radiant and triumphant conclusion that celebrates Lord Tullamore's achievements and lasting legacy. The brilliant technical passages return and lead to a powerful finale that underlines Lord Tullamore's enduring importance and influence on his city and beyond.

Carl Wittrock's "Lord Tullamore" is not only a musical challenge and a treat for wind orchestras, but also a sonorous tribute to an important historical character. The suite combines technical brilliance with emotional depth, creating a work that inspires and delights both musicians and listeners.
