Three waltz parts follow and in the following coda some parts from the preceding waltzes are repeated again. The melody of this waltz is characterized by technical and rhythmic simplicity, but also by beauty and feeling.

Programme notes *: Indigo und die 40 Räuber is the first operetta performed by Johann Strauss (son). The libretto was written by several arrangers, including Richard Genée, but was already revised after the premiere. The text is based on the fairy tale by Ali Baba and the forty robbers from Thousand and One Nights. The work premiered on February 10, 1871 at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna. With the operetta Indigo and the 40 Robbers, Johann Strauss, until then known primarily as a waltz composer, began to make a name for himself as a composer of musical stage works. However, the work was not very successful in its original form, which was mainly due to the somewhat weak textbook. The libretto was revised several times over the years. A new version with the title La Reine Indigo ("Queen Indigo") soon appeared in Paris. In 1877 the work came back to Vienna under the new title, where it was performed again at the Theater an der Wien. The most famous text version of the work was created by Ernst Reiterer in 1906. While retaining the music, the work now bore the title "Tausend und eine Nacht" ("One Thousand and One Nights"). In this version the work is occasionally performed at various theatres up to the present day, at the New Year's Concert in 1992 and at various festivals (including the Bregenz Lake Festival). However, even in the revised versions of the textbook, the work did not achieve the popularity of later Strauss operettas such as Die Fledermaus or Der Zigeunerbaron. Quelle/Source: Wikipedia
