Additional info/contents Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy war ein begnadeter Improvisator auf der Orgel, doch gibt es nur wenige Spuren seiner Improvisationen. Eine davon führt in die Bodleian Library in Oxford. Hier liegt ein kurzes Fragment über den Choral 'O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden', das vermutlich im Kontext des großen Bach-Konzerts entstanden ist, das Mendelssohn 1840 in der Thomaskirche in Leipzig veranstaltete. Robert Schumann berichtete ausführlich, wie Mendelssohn über den genannten Choral improvisiert und im Verlaufe auch das BACH-Motiv eingeführt habe. Rudolf Lutz hat nach langen Studien der Sonaten Mendelssohns das Fragment zu einer Sonate im Stile des Komponisten erweitert.
