Additional info/contents	Der Titel dieses Werkes, K-1, bezieht sich auf den gleichgenannten japanischen Kampfsport. Ich bin kein Fan dieser Sportarten, aber als Steve Rosse - bekannt für sein mächtiges Tubaspiel - mich bat, etwas für 6 Posaunen und 2 Tubas zu schreiben, dachte ich spontan an wilde, grausam und rau tönende Musik. Ich stellte mir zwei Tubisten vor (die Kämpfer), die kurze Noten spielen, wie wenn sie sich gegenseitig schlagen würden, dazwischen werden einige Töne von den Bassposaunen (die allegorischen Trainer) übernommen, die die Kämpfer im Ring mit frenetischen Zurufen anweisen. Die 4 Tenorposaunen (die allegorischen Zuhörer) haben einen ganz anderen musikalischen Ausdruck : manchmal einfach Lärm, aber auch Geschrei je nach Spannung des Kampfes. Das Stück ist gut geeignet für zusätzlich theatralische Darbietung: Die Kämpfer marschieren ein, Aug in Auge, jede Runde mit einem Gongschlag beginnend und endend, bis schliesslich das 'Handtuch geworfen wird'. Die Musik ist nicht 'schön' aber voller Energie und Ereiferung, genau wie im Sport namens K-1. Even though I am not a fan of this kind of sports, when Steve Rosse asked me to write something for 6 trombones and 2 tubas, (knowing what a strong player he is), something extremely wild, cruel and raw sounded spontaneously in my mind. I imagined two tubas (fighters) playing short notes as they punch each other, with some of the notes being picked up from the bass trombones (the allegorical coaches and trainers) because they are following the trainer's screaming instructions at them in the ring! The four tenor trombones (the allegorical audience) can have a really different musical texture; sometimes just making noise, but sometimes shouting together if the fight is exciting. This situation offers a chance for a kind of theatrical act on stage! Fighters marching in, face to face, starting and ending each round with a gong hit and ending up by 'throwing in the towel.' This music is not beautiful, but it does have energy and excitement...just as does the sport called K-1. Même si je ne suis pas amateur des sports martiaux, la demande de Steve Rossé (connu pour son jeu musclé au tuba) d'écrire une pièce pour 6 trombones et 2 tubas a spontanément stimulé mon imagination vers une musique sauvage, cruelle et vive. J'ai opposé deux tubas (les combattants) jouant des notes courtes et sèches comme s'ils se frappaient mutuellement, en ajoutant des notes aux trombones basses (les entraîneurs virtuels) parce que les belligérants réagissent à leurs injonctions frénétiques, hurlées de leurs coins de ring! Les quatre trombones ténors (le public virtuel) peuvent exprimer un contenu musical très différent, passant du simple bruit à des cris suivant l'intensité du combat. Cette constellation permet d'ajouter une petite mise en scène théâtrale au concert. Les combattants entrent chacun d'un côté de la scène, chaque 'round' se termine par un coup de gong et le 'combat' se termine par un 'jet de serviette'. L'esthétique de cette musique ne s'inspire pas de la beauté, mais de l'énergie des combattants et de l'émotion que provoquent les péripéties de la bataille et son issue... précisément comme cela se passe dans le sport nommé K-1.
