Vaclav Smita ist 1822 in Prag geboren, wo er studiert, gespielt, unterrichtet und dort 1908 auch gestorben ist. Am Konservatorium studierte er Posaune mit Josef Kail (1795-1871) und Komposition mit Friedrich Dionysus Weber (1766- 1842). Er war Bass-Posaunist im Orchester der Deutschen Oper in Prag. Vaclav Smita war der erste tschechische Professor für Posaune am Konservatorium, wo er von 1868-1903 unterrichtete. Er genoss auch grosses Ansehen als Begleiter am Klavier.
Für Posaune und andere Blechblasinstrumente schrieb er zahlreiche Werke. Das Es-Dur Concertino stammt aus dem Jahre 1899. Es wurde wieder zu ehren gebracht als Pflichtstück am Internationalen Wettbewerb des Prager Frühlings anno 1997.
Vaclav Smita was born in 1822 in Prague, where he studied, played and taught until his death in 1908. He studied trombone at the conservatory with Josef Kail (1795-1871) and composition with Friedrich Dionysus Weber (1766-1842). He played bass trombone with the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper of Prague. He was the first czech trombone teacher at the conservatory, teaching in this institution from 1868 until 1903. Moreover, he enjoyed a fine reputation as a piano accompanist.
He wrote many pieces for trombone and other brass instruments. His Concertino in Eb major was composed in 1899. It has been brought back into the spotlight again as a required piece for the 1997 Prague Spring International Competition.
Václav Smita est né en 1822 à Prague où il étudia, joua et enseigna avant d'y mourir en 1908. Il a étudié le trombone au conservatoire avec Josef Kail (1795-1871) et la composition avec Friedrich Dionysus Weber (1766-1842). Il fut trombone basse à l'Orchestre de la Deutsche Oper de Prague. Il fut le premier professeur de trombone tchèque nommé au conservatoire et y enseigna de 1868 à 1903. Il jouissait en outre d'une grande réputation comme pianiste accompagnateur.
Il a écrit de nombreuses pièces pour trombone et autres instruments de cuivre. Le Concertino en Mib majeur date de 1899. II a été remis à l'honneur comme morceau imposé à l'occasion du Concours international du Printemps de Prague de 1997.
