Additional info/contents	1995 bestellte die SUISA Stiftung für Musik dieses Werk als Pflichtstück für den Internationalen Trompetenwettbewerb in Guebwiller, Elsass, Frankreich. Es ist für Solo-Trompete und Streichorchester geschrieben (5 Bratschen, 4 Violoncelli und 3 Contrabbassi, jedes Instrument einen individuellen Part spielend). In der einsätzigen Konzeption (molto largo e misterioso) werden dennoch 3 Unterteilungen deutlich: die quasi deklamatorische Einführung der Trompete alleine (mit 'Plunger'-Dämpfer für einen derben Klang) gefolgt vom Hauptteil des Werkes wo die offene Trompete sehr progressiv aus der tiefen in die hohe Lage zu einem leuchtenden, lyrischen Höhepunkt emporsteigt, dies durch ein subtiles, säuselndes Klanggewebe der tiefen Streicher hindurch. Im Schlussteil verlieren sich die Streicher (Bratschen und Celli) in der extremhohen Lage während die Trompete (mit einem 'Harmon'-Dämpfer ohne Rohr wie ihn Miles Davis gebrauchte) in der Mittellage zur Ruhe zurückkehrt und im tiefen Register in unsäglichem Geflüster endet. Die Uraufführung fand am 15. April 1997 in Lausanne (Schweiz) statt, mit Olivier Theurillat Solotrompete, dem Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne unter der Leitung von Alan Gilbert. This work was commissioned in 1995 by the Suisa Foundation for Music, and was one of the required works at the world Trumpet Competition in Guebwiller, France. It was written for solo trumpet and string orchestra (5 violas, 4 cellos, and 3 contrabasses, each instrument playing an individual part). Although it was conceived as a single movement (molto largo e misterioso), three divisions are apparent: the quasi-declamatory introduction for trumpet alone (with a 'plunger' mute for a 'rougher' sound), followed by the main body of the work where the trumpet (open) starts low and works its way progressively into the high range, within the subtle texture of quivering low strings, to attain a flamboyant and lyrical climax. In the last section the strings (violas and cellos) disappear into the extreme high register, while the trumpet (using a Harmon mute without the tube, as Miles Davis did) finds serenity in the middle register and concludes in the low register, murmuring the inexpressible. The world premiere has been performed in Lausanne, Switzerland by Olivier Theurillat, solo trumpet and the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra conducted by Alan Gilbert. Commandée en 1995 par la Fondation Suisa pour la Musique en tant qu'oeuvre imposée au Concours mondial de trompette de Guebwiller en France, cette pièce est écrite pour une trompette solo et un orchestre à cordes (5 altos, 4 violoncelles et 3 contrebasses, chaque instrument jouant une partie individuelle). Bien que conçue en un seul mouvement (molto largo e misterioso) on peut distinguer trois parties: l'introduction quasi déclamatoire de la trompette seule (avec une sourdine 'plunger' aux sonorités rauques) suivie de la séquence principale de l'oeuvre qui voit la trompette ouverte partir du grave pour s'élever très progressivement vers l'aigu à travers le tissu sonore subtile et frémissant des cordes graves pour atteindre un paroxisme lyrique flamboyant. Dans la partie finale, les cordes (altos et violoncelles) se perdent dans l'extrême aigu, tandis que la trompette, munie de la sourdine 'harmon' sans tube (comme l'employait Miles Davis) retrouve le calme du registre médium et termine dans le grave en chuchotant l'indicible.
