Hartke's symphony was commissioned by the New York Philharmonic, Lorin Maazel, Music Director, with the generous support of Marie-Josee and Henry Kravis and is dedicated to the Hilliard Ensemble, who both premiered and recorded the work (New World Records 80648-2).
