Additional info/contents	Der nahe Bristol geborene Robert Lucas Pearsall wandte sich erst relativ spät der Musik zu. Nach Studien hauptsächlich in Deutschland stand die Vokalmusik Zeit seines Lebens im Zentrum seines Schaffens. Abgesehen von lateinischen geistlichen Chorstücken schrieb er zahlreiche Madrigale für die Bristol Madrigal Society, die er selbst mitbegründete. Zu diesen zählt auch das achtstimmige Great God of Love, dessen auch vom Komponisten stammender Text das viktorianische Zeitalter widerspiegelt. Das komplexe, klangvolle Stimmengewebe erinnert an die Musik des 16. Jahrhunderts, ist aber zugleich mit romantischem Geist erfüllt.
