Additional info/contents 'Russian Folksongs' was composed by the Russian composer Anatoli Konstantivich Liadov. He studied composition with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov at the Conservatory. He collected Russian folk songs on behalf of the Imperial Geographical Society. Characteristic of this music are, among other things, the bizarre rhythmic patterns and the irregular syntax with very many repetitions, as is usual in epic songs. These influences are also often found in Liadov's compositions, for example in his symphonic poems 'Kikimora' and 'Baba Yaga' and in his 'Eight Russian Folksongs'. Russian Folksongs' contains seven of these folk songs, the eighth song being a hymn that originally preceded the seven songs as an introduction.
