Additional info/contents Mit dieser pastoral getönten Weihnachtskantate von Johann Heinrich Schmelzer, dem langjährigen Wiener Kaiserlichen Hofkapellmeister, soll auf einen prominenten Barockkomponisten hingewiesen werden, der mit seinen Vokal- und Instrumentalwerken in der „Alte-Musik-Szene” noch längst nicht den Platz erhalten hat, der ihm kompositionsgeschichtlich zukommt. Schmelzers leicht aufführbare lateinische Hirtenmusik präsentiert sich in teils schlichter, von alpinen Idiomen geprägter Melodik, teils im Stil der festlichen venezianischen Barockoper. Fünf- bis siebenstimmige Partien wechseln mit generalbassbegleiteter Ein- oder Zweistimmigkeit ab.
