The march Batinah Plain was written in 2001 for the Sultanate of Oman, where it was first performed on the 18th of November 2001 on Oman's National Day. The march contains two Arabian references: first of all in the titel Batinah Plain, which comes from the fertile plain north-west of the capital Muscat. Secondly in the music with its repeated short phrases and the sometimes unusual orchestration. The piccolo part is also optional for flutes.
