Additional info/contents
“Colossus of Columbia” by Russell Alexander is a striking example of the rich marching tradition of the United States. With its powerful melodicism, rhythmic sophistication, and dynamic contrasts, the march captures the spirit of an emerging nation and represents the cultural and musical heyday at the turn of the century. Although less in the spotlight than Sousa or King, Alexander created “Colossus of Columbia” a work that is still performed around the world today and reflects the energy and pride of an era. The music remains a living testimony to the combination of patriotism, entertainment and artistic quality in American marching music.
