Additional info/contents
Sonata IX for 2 bassoons and basso continuo is included in Plectrum musicum Op. 4. The present edition follows the rule of the smallest possible editorial intervention into the musical text of the source. Instead of critical apparatus, facsimiles of respective pages of the original part books are included in this edition. Realisation of basso continuo was included in the present edition for practical reasons. It is based on the original figuring and on seventeenth century rules of basso continuo accompaniment. Seventeenth century sonatas were often performed as both secular and church music; therefore it is not possible to tell what particular instrument should be employed. The present edition was prepared with the organ or chamber organ in mind.
